– Communications Manager, Trade Association
Inclusive media training
For groups with specific access requirements, Neil is a trainer with the right approach and experience
“There’s a risk that a media trainer – like some journalists when they’re conducting interviews – sees their delegates as disability first, person second,” says Neil Midgley.
“For me, the focus of any media training session is about helping the delegates to gain both competence and confidence for public interviews – presenting their authentic selves as well as possible.
“That’s as true for disabled delegates as it is for non-disabled people – even though the challenges may be different.
“It’s been so rewarding for me to media-train some very diverse groups, and to gain experience in training people with disabilities.
“I’ve had non-disabled delegates who were terrible on camera, and didn’t get any better. And I’ve had disabled delegates who really shone, despite being worried at the start of the training that their disability would get in their way.
“Do get in touch if you’d like to discuss the particular requirements of your delegate group.”
